Feeding and Swallowing in the Classroom
The Bovenschen staff is dedicated to ensuring that
students are able to function and achieve to the best of their
abilities. For those students who struggle with essential life skills such as
eating and drinking, additional supports are required in the school setting. A team of highly qualified professionals will develop procedures for safe feeding in the classroom. The team consists of speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers, physical therapists, nurses, social workers, and administrators.
We follow the MISD feeding and swallowing procedures outlined in the flowchart below.

All students who require adaptations for feeding or feeding equipment for therapeutic or safety reasons should have a written feeding plan. It is meant to reflect the most crucial information related to safe eating and drinking for a student. The plan should be modified or updated as needed throughout the school year.
