Augmentative and Alternative Communication
According to ASHA augmentative and alternative communication includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas.

Includes the use of the user's body to convey messages or the use of equipment in addition to the user's body.

Bovenschen Core Vocabulary:
Core vocabulary are words that have been determined to be highly useful for communicating in both social and academic contexts. MISD AT Lending Library
The MISD AT lending library allows a student to try an assistive technology device for an extended .period of time. It is the best way to determine if the tool effectively supports the student's access to education. The Macomb County Assistive Technology (AT) Lending Library was developed to allow Macomb County teachers and students that opportunity.

All of our classrooms have an ipad and there are ipads that can be checked out from our school library. They are being utilized in numerous ways, such as for communication, building vocabulary, and working on expressive and receptive language skills. We have a bluetooth switch and ipad mounts that make the device more accessible for our students. Here are some of our favorite apps in the slideshow below.
